SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they have added defensive back Jameel Dowling to their active roster.

"Jameel is a talented player with game-changing ability," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "His experience at a high level will be an asset to the team as we look to continually improve throughout the season."

Dowling (6-3, 205, Hawaii) most recently spent time with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and also played for the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League (UFL) from 2010-11, where he won a championship in 2010. The Tacoma, Wash. native also was a member of the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League in the preseason of 2009, where he appeared in four games. He spent the remainder of that season with the BC Lions of the CFL.

At Hawaii, Dowling played for one season after transferring from Oregon. He racked up 66 total tackles, two interceptions and one-and-a-half sacks in 14 appearances for the Warriors in 2008. As an Oregon Duck, Dowling appeared in 11 games in 2006 and made nine total tackles. He was a collegiate teammate with current SaberCats offensive lineman Mark Lewis and defensive lineman Blake Ferras (currently on injured reserve). Dowling transferred to Oregon as a junior from Butte College in Oroville, Calif., where he spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career. He earned All-Golden Valley Conference recognition in both of his seasons with the Roadrunners. He finished his sophomore season with 66 total tackles and six interceptions; one of which was returned for a score.
