05/26/2012

San Jose moves up to number two in AFL Power Rankings after their 84-77 overtime win over the Chicago Rush on Saturday.

Arena Football League Communications

Chicago - For the second consecutive week, the Arizona Rattlers (8-3) are the top team in the AFL Power Rankings after defeating the New Orleans VooDoo (4-6) 69-45 in Week 12. Rattlers quarterback Nick Davila went 5-for-5 for 103 yards and four touchdowns in the third quarter alone. The League’s most efficient passer finished the game at 20-for-26 with 303 yards, nine touchdowns and a completion percentage of 76.9.

Though the Rattlers claimed top placement in the Power Rankings again this week, the San Jose SaberCats (8-3) still maintain first place and head-to-head tiebreakers in the West Division. After a week in the three spot, the SaberCats moved back up to number two in the Power Rankings following an 84-77 overtime victory over the Chicago Rush (6-4). Despite the loss, the Rush actually moved up from eighth to seventh in the Power Rankings.

The San Antonio Talons (8-3) finished off the Utah Blaze (6-5) in the final seconds of their Week 12 meeting to sweep the 2012 series, but the 64-61 victory was not enough for Aaron Garcia and company to maintain the number two spot this week. The Talons swapped places with the SaberCats, though San Antonio manhandled San Jose 72-47 just two weeks ago. The Talons are off in Week 11.

The Philadelphia Soul (8-3) took full control of the American Conference East Division in Week 12, defeating the Cleveland Gladiators 55-33 at the Q. The win moved Philadelphia up from fifth to fourth and dropped Cleveland from fourth to eighth in the Power Rankings.

Coming in at number five this week were the Spokane Shock (6-4). The Shock evened the series with the Iowa Barnstormers (4-7) with a 68-62 win in Week 12. With the win, the Shock jumped ahead of the Utah Blaze in the West Division standings, though the Blaze – despite losing in Week 12 – jumped up from ninth to sixth in the Power Rankings. Four of the top six teams in the AFL Power Rankings hail from the West Division, which remains the only division in the League in which all teams have a winning record.

The AFL Power Rankings are calculated on AFLFieldPass.com using vPower™, a scoring system based on winning percentage, strength of schedule, scoring percentage, and win-streak. The scale is normalized from 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest).
