SaberCats Add Defensive Lineman Jason Stewart

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats announced today that they have been assigned defensive lineman Jason Stewart, who played under defensive line coach Kerry Locklin at Fresno State.
"Jason is very quick and physical off the ball," said Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet. "He provides us with even more weapons along our defensive line and we look forward to him having the opportunity to compete.”
Stewart (6-0, 315, Fresno State) most recently spent time with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League, where he played two seasons. He also played three years with the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League, where he recorded 47.5 tackles, eight sacks three forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and an interception. He began his professional career as a reserve for the National Football League’s Indianapolis Colts in 2004, signing as an undrafted free agent.
The Bakersfield, Calif. native spent four seasons at Fresno State, where he worked on the defensive line under Locklin. Stewart had a breakout year in his senior campaign in 2002, when he was the team’s third leading tackler with 79 total tackles, five sacks, a forced fumble and an interception. Throughout his collegiate career, Stewart appeared in 49 games, posted 198 total tackles and had eight sacks.
